The South Loop neighborhood is an area east of the Chicago River and south of Congress Parkway that's home to some of Chicago's most popular cultural attractions, including the Museum Campus, where Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, the Field Museum of Natural History and Soldier Field are located. It's also a common destination for business travelers heading to conferences at McCormick Place. But most visitors choose to stay in the Loop or near the Magnificent Mile, closer to Chicago's other popular attractions, so South Loop is somewhat removed from the main tourist action.
To be as close to as many tourist sites as possible, stay to the north of the neighborhood, next to Grant Park, where you'll be within easy walking distance of the Loop. If the Museum Campus is your main destination, stay along the south end of Grant Park. Business travelers heading to McCormick Place -- the largest convention center in the U.S. -- will want to stay just south of Soldier Field.
