With its ornate French balconies and cheery pale-yellow paint, the Muyan Suites stands out on an otherwise slightly drab street. The small lobby is done up a bit fussily with patterned wallpaper, ornamental lace curtains, a Turkish carpet, chandeliers, and high-backed chairs and a sofa covered in deep burgundy upholstery and faux gilt trim. A burgundy-carpeted staircase and an elevator both lead up to the three floors above that contain most of the rooms. With no more than three rooms on each floor, the hotel has a very intimate atmosphere. Guests include couples, families, and solo travelers who value personalized service and a homey feel over lots of extras.

On a quiet, drab street close to Istanbul’s major sights
Set on a quiet side street less than a five-minute walk from the Çemberlitaş tram stop, the Muyan Suites is a bit tricky to find at first. The residential and commercial buildings surrounding the hotel are drab and some look almost abandoned, but the nearby main road Peykhane Caddesi is bustling and has lots of local eateries good for grabbing a quick, cheap bite. The Grand Bazaar and the Blue Mosque are each within a 10-minute walk in opposite directions from the hotel (and the Hagia Sophia is directly across the square from the Blue Mosque). Ten to 15 minutes on foot will bring travelers to the Basilica Cistern and the entrance to Topkapı Palace. It’s typically a 30- to 45-minute drive to the airport depending on traffic.

The 11 rooms at the Muyan Suites include those in both Standard and Deluxe categories, though there’s not all that much difference between the two in terms of square footage or amenities. All rooms are amply sized, with double or queen-size beds and an upholstered armchair that can pull out into a single bed. Patterned wallpaper, cushioned headboards, lampshades, and double velvet and lace drapes give the rooms a warm, if not particularly contemporary, feeling. The bathrooms have attractive geometric tile on the floors and some have shower/tub combos.
Each room has a flat-screen TV, a kettle and assortment of tea bag and instant coffee packets, a desk, air-conditioning, a wardrobe, a safe, and a small ironing board (an iron can be borrowed from reception). A free 1.5-liter bottle of water is provided daily.
One connected suite (a paired Standard and Deluxe) on the lobby floor doesn’t get much natural light, but has a small outdoor patio for smoking.
