Bottom Line

This four-pearl, adult-only hotel from the Hipotels chain is situated on the Sa Coma beachfront. The 397 guest rooms are simple and contemporary, including furnished balconies, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi -- though the use of safes incurs a charge. A large and lovely outdoor pool is surrounded by a vast sundeck, plus there's an indoor pool. Wellness facilities include a spa, saunas, steam rooms, and a fitness center, and there's even a hair salon. Guests can choose between an Italian restaurant, Japanese, Spanish tapas, and buffet-style dining; all-inclusive and half-board plans are available. Families traveling with kids may want to check out Hipotels Marfil Playa or Protur Biomar Gran Hotel & Spa, both of which have kids' pools, kids' clubs, and other child-friendly amenities.

Hipotels Mediterraneo

Scene

Upscale chain hotel by the beach with polished interiors and an adult-only policy

Housed in a large, seven-story white building, the Hipotels Mediterraneo is surrounded by lovely, beachfront grounds. Grassy lawns are dotted with palm trees, flower beds, and other greenery, while the attractive pool is encircled by tall palms and surrounded by an immense sundeck neatly lined with umbrella-shaded loungers. Inside, the massive seven-story atrium lobby features greenery dangling from the interior hallways stacked above, injecting freshness into the space. Sleek, white tile floors and plenty of natural light make the space bright and airy. Simple, clean-lined wooden sofas with white padding as well as some colorful armchairs scattered throughout provide plenty of seating in the lobby, while large abstract art hangs on the walls.

Other common areas, like the hotel's dining spaces, are equally bright and modern. Angular, olive green and floral-patterned armchairs fill the bar, and stylish lamps hang overhead. The hotel's Japanese restaurant is awash in bold red and black hues, while another dining space is a sea of crisp white tablecloths and gleaming white marble floors. Overall, this is a polished resort-style property with a quiet atmosphere. An adult-only policy and beachside location attract couples seeking a sunny vacation -- the majority of guests here are German, as well as some Brits and other northern Europeans.

They're all the same size (323 square feet, or 30 square meters) and have furnished balconies overlooking the grounds and surroundings -- some have sea or partial sea views. Decor is simple, with dark wood contemporary furniture contrasted by cream walls and tiled floors. A few decorative pieces -- like mosaic tile panels on the walls, or sculptural glass-and-wood pieces set on shelving -- add a bit of sleek and sexy appeal. The spaces either feature a neutral color palette of beige, cream, and brown hues, or pair these coffee and cream colors with burgundy accents.

Amenities include flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, minibars, air-conditioning, safes (for an added charge), and free Wi-Fi, but there are no coffee- and tea-making facilities in entry-level rooms.
