Scene

Stylish, family-friendly hotel with personal touches popular with air transit passengers

Built in 2002, the SpringHill Suites Miami Airport South includes seven floors of rooms that were renovated in 2009. The hotel’s exterior looks generic, but the interior is stylishly decorated. Personal touches -- from lollipops at the contemporary front desk to flavored water dispensers in the lobby -- add to the welcoming atmosphere. The lobby is bright with high recessed ceiling designs and contemporary brown chairs, green sofas, and a flat-screen TV. There are two modern elevators. Due to its close proximity to the airport and the Port of Miami, the hotel attracts plenty of transit passengers.

Location

Situated on the serene Lake Mahar, near the airport

The hotel is located in an isolated area, although there are a few fast food restaurants, a Publix Super Market, and a Walgreens drug store within a five-minute drive from the property. La Rosa Restaurant is a 10-minute drive away. The Miami Airport Convention Center is a 10-minute walk. A free shuttle ferries passengers between the hotel and the airport; the trip takes just under 15 minutes. The Jackson Memorial Hospital is a 17-minute drive away. Driving to the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens takes just under 20 minutes, while reaching South Beach takes closer to 25 minutes by car.

Rooms

Modern suites with microwaves and flat-screen TVs, and some overlook the lake

The SpringHill offers three types of lodging: King Suites, Double Suites, and Executive Suites, some with lake views. Accessible suites are also available. All suites have stylish furnishings, neutral-toned textiles, writing desks, teal accent walls and silver-hued decor. Walls separate contemporary sitting areas, with blue sofa beds. All rooms have iPod docks, flat-screen TVs, irons, microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers, and cribs are available on request. Note that housekeeping is only offered on weekdays and there are no in-room safes (although there is a safe at the front desk). Bathrooms have shower/tub combos and separate sink areas. Deals are provided for extended stays.

Features

Modern meeting room, a business center, 24-hour gym, and shuttle service

The hotel's colorfully designed meeting room -- which can fit up to 30 people -- has green carpeting and cushioned banquet chairs along with modern audiovisual equipment. Catering is available. Other business facilities include a room with two PCs, a commercial-grade printer/photocopier, and an ATM.A free buffet breakfast is served in a room off the lobby and features two self-serve waffle makers, a coffee station, and a flat-screen TV. While a variety of seating options are available, the buffet area can get crowded in the morning. The hotel also has a small market where snacks, drinks, microwave dinners, and toiletries are sold. The pool is clean -- but small -- and is surrounded by trees with views of the lake. It's surrounded by a deck with green lounge chairs and patio furniture with umbrellas. There's also a bright 24-hour gym with a few modern cardio machines and a set of free weights.
