Bottom Line
The ultimate family getaway, the all-inclusive 438-room Azul Sensatori mega-resort offers a fabulous kids' club, with fairly modern amenities, lots of fun colors and spaces, and even a life-size Dora the Explorer running around. For the adults, the spa is airy and luxurious with soothing decor. On the hotel's website, the beach looks stunning, but in reality it is full of seaweed and rocks, making it not the greatest place to swim. It is, however, still a great place to rent some kayaks, play beach sports, and get a golden Mexico tan. Fortunately for those looking to swim, the winding lazy river pool weaves around the property, which many swim-up rooms border. Rooms are large, bright, and luxurious, some with private balconies or large Jacuzzis. Although there are hardly any restaurants or non-beach activities in the immediate area, on-site restaurants (including the 12-course, exclusive Le Chique, and Mojito Lounge, with 31 specialty mojitos) and hotel-oriented activities offer plenty to keep vacationers busy.

Location
On a seaweed-covered beach, but just a short drive from Puerto Morelos, a popular snorkeling and swimming destination
Although the hotel itself is located on a seaweed-clad stretch of sand, gorgeous, pristine beaches can be found in the surrounding areas. Located about 20 minutes south of Cancun, the nearby area really only offers one thing: the beach. Virtually nothing else is within walking distance, but a shuttle or taxi carts guests to and from Cancun fairly regularly.
Although the hotel is in one of the remote areas of the peninsula, thousands of spring breakers, honeymooners, families and travelers of all ages flow into the Cancun area every year, making it one of the world's top beach destinations. Its turquoise waters, beautiful stretches of sand, and night-long parties are a main draw here, but there's a lot to do besides going to the beach. Cancun is the gateway to the breathtaking Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza and Tulum (Coba is also nearby, but is less well-preserved). Even for those planning to spend most of their time in a lounge chair, these centuries-old archaeological sites are well worth a visit.

- 35-minute drive to Playa del Carmen, a laid-back and bustling town with great shopping, and a well-heeled crowd
- 35-minute drive to Tulum Mayan ruins

Ay Dios mio! Our friend Dora the Explorer looks a little incapacitated after a day at the kid’s club at the Azul Sensatori Hotel.
