A practical option, the upper-middle-range Pinnacle Hotel Whistler comes with a solid array of in-room amenities and on-site features. Its 84 rooms have fireplaces, kitchenettes, and jetted tubs, though they're a bit small and the decor could use some updating. Throughout the interiors, the hotel feels devoid of personality. Still, perks like two restaurants and an outdoor pool and hot tub add to the hotel's appeal, though there's no breakfast served and parking comes with a fee. Travelers could consider the Ava Whistler Hotel, which has similar amenities, a breakfast buffet in winter, and meeting facilities.
Scene
Lodge-style hotel with a laid-back atmosphere and a clientele of mostly couples
Pinnacle Hotel Whistler looks like the typical mountain-style lodge with warm-wood-and-green exteriors and stone accents. It has a relaxed vibe, and plays up that fact as part of its appeal. Though it exudes a homey vibe throughout with fireplaces and contemporary decor, it feels rather generic on the whole, and there’s not a lot of cozy public spaces to interact with others. That said, most guests are drawn to the property's practical on-site and in-room features versus its atmosphere.
Location
Within walking distance of all attractions, though a bit far from the gondolas
Whistler isn’t too large of a town, and with that in mind, Pinnacle Hotel Whistler has a decent location within walking distance of restaurants, bars, and the slopes. When carrying heavy equipment, though, the eight-minute walk to the gondolas can feel longer than it is. A public shuttle runs seasonally and stops in front of the hotel for those who need it. As far as other sights go, the Olympic Plaza is a four-minute walk away, while the Whistler Conference Center takes six minutes to reach on foot. Most of the art galleries can be reached in about a 10-minute walk. It’s a two-hour drive to Vancouver International Airport, which is the closest one.
Rooms
Plain, homey rooms with flat-screen TVs, fireplaces, whirlpool baths, and kitchenettes
The Pinnacles homey vibe pervades the hotel’s 84 suites, whose simple decor includes warm wooden furniture, white beds, gray carpeting, striped cream walls, and tan and red curtains. Rooms are pleasant enough, though they're a bit cramped and decor throughout is dated and generic. Amenities are plentiful, and include flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, and free Wi-Fi, along with more lavish extras like fireplaces, whirlpool bath tubs in the main room, and kitchenettes. The kitchenettes are outfitted with refrigerators, microwaves, ovens, stoves, sinks, dishwashers, plates, silverware, coffeemakers, and kettles with tea and coffee provided. Most of the bathrooms are fresher looking than the rooms, with sleek white countertops and tasteful blue-gray walls. They usually include small glass showers with waterfall showerheads, though some still have shower/tub combos. Tuliv toiletries are provided, along with hairdryers. Be aware that some guests report bothersome noise from the kitchen appliances, air-conditioning, whirlpool tubs, and occasionally from other rooms.
Features
Swimming pool and hot tub, ski rentals, two restaurants, and free Wi-Fi
Beyond the great in-room amenities, Pinnacle Hotel Whistler has a well-rounded list of on-site features that account for a big part of its appeal. In terms of outdoor activities, the property rents out free bikes, and snowboard and ski rentals are available for a fee. An outdoor swimming pool and hot tub surrounded by pine trees gives another spot to be active. However, the teensy gym with just two cardio machines is a bit of a disappointment. Guests have two dining spots at this hotel -- the Italian bistro, Alta Bistro, and a French restaurant that serves local dishes, Quattro at Whistler. Both serve only dinner, and room service hours are limited. Wi-Fi is free throughout, and underground parking is available for a steep fee.
