The Carolina Low Country, which extends from Charleston down to the Sea Islands, exudes a a particularly carefree vibe that only that warm stretch of coast can. The area features stunning marshlands and Southern sensibilities, translating into a style characterized by wrap-around porches, antebellum plantations, accents of the West Indies, and carriage houses covered in lush, Spanish moss. Kick back and take a look at the hotels that do Low Country decor and design just right. This "inn" in Carolina Low Country, really more akin to a sprawling estate, provides a one-of-a-kind experience that uniquely blends southern history and almost otherworldly natural beauty: rivers, misty marshes, old oaks draped with wispy Spanish moss, and salty breezes. This quaint, 25-room bed-and-breakfast, housed within a Civil War-era former private residence, has an excellent location within the Historic District and competitive rates. Rooms are decorated in traditional style (white quilts, four-poster beds, wood floors), and the property features a large Jacuzzi underneath a shady pergola. Main Street Inn & Spa is easily one of the most romantic and beautiful B&Bs in Hilton Head. Located at the edge of the lush Hilton Head Plantation, the stately Spanish-Colonial-style building is surrounded by immaculately manicured grounds dotted with tiered fountains. The 33 luxurious and large rooms feature elegant colonial decor with homey, vintage touches, and beautiful bathrooms that open to private courtyards or balconies. Housed in a beautifully renovated mansion dating to 1843, the Jasmine House Inn has all the charm of a B&B and the comfort of an upscale hotel, plus a central location in downtown Charleston. It has 12 large rooms with hardwood floors, 15-foot ceilings, flat-screen TVs and unique regional decor (think matching bedspreads and drapes, patterned rugs, and floral wallpaper). This 41-room boutique hotel, located within walking distance of Historic District attractions, is housed within two historic buildings dating to the 1860s. Its decor incorporates both traditional Charleston details (such as original brick walls) and West Indies style. The Inn at Harbour Town is a 60-room boutique with a long list of amenities, including three golf courses, several tennis courts, a nearby beach and pool, and shopping. Rooms are modern and upscale, while the rest property is classic Low Country, with wood details and airy rooms that let in ocean breezes. The 179-room Courtyard Charleston Waterfront is located on the Ashley Marina, right off the highway and next to the Medical University of South Carolina. The waterfront pool area with marina views and landscaped patio, complete with wicker chairs, is the real highlight. This 40-room property is a real B&B, with quaint, spacious rooms overlooking a lovely courtyard and traditional-style decor in Historic Downtown Charleston. This stately historic boutique is one of Charleston's best-known hotels, and has plenty of charming southern details (such as a grand wrought-iron staircase) and a location near Historic Downtown's popular tourist sights.
