Spinning is one of a myriad of free fitness classes offered at the Grand Wailea.
The fitness center at the Grand Wailea rivals that of any syndicated gym: two floors filled with top-of-the-line cardio and strength-training equipment plus personal training sessions, wellness consultations, and free fitness classes available. Spinning is one of a myriad of free fitness classes offered at the Grand Wailea. Filled with top-notch equipment and staffed with personal trainers, the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua's fitness center is perched above the immaculate hotel grounds, overlooking the Kapalua coast. Everything is in pristine condition, right down to the stacks of towels in the fitness center. The 24-hour fitness center at the Sheraton Waikiki is comes with a good range of Life Fitness cardio machines, an assortment of weight machines, free weights, and a stretching area. Plus, unlike many gyms in Hawaii, you can use the Sheraton's gym for free. Each cardio machine includes a personal TV screen and a connector so that you can hook up your iPod. The Halekulani's second-floor fitness center has new equipment and floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over the ocean and the pool. But it's the small details like bottled water, newspapers, and fresh fruit that make it a cut above the typical hotel gym. The Marriott Kauai recently emerged from a $50 million renovation that includes upgrades to its 24-hour gym (free to access). In addition to the new machines, there's also a separate aerobics room and $5 exercise classes available such as yoga, pilates, and fitness boot camp. Though the gym might not be as well attended as the gyms at other, more expensive properties, guests can borrow newspapers, issues of Newsweek, and ample towels. The fitness center at the Grand Hyatt earns high marks for its 1,800 square feet of workout space, which includes cardio machines with personalized video monitors, extensive weight machines, an indoor-outdoor yoga studio, and a staff of personal trainers. Another great way to sweak at the Grand Hyatt: kayak in the hotel's oceanside saltwater lagoon. The Grand Hyatt's gym has ample selection of pilates balls and weights of all sizes. Opened in 2008 as part of the enormous full-service Moana Lani Spa, the 1,400-foot fitness center has a nice selection of cardio equipment, a full set of weights and machines, and yoga mats and balls. Best of all: There's ample space, so you can work out in relative privacy.
