Pros
- Secluded seaside location
- Coastal trail leads to town
- Private huts with outdoor showers
- Some huts have private plunge pools
- Breakfast buffet at Chaba Restaurant, and lunch and appetizers at beachfront Elvis
- Romantic dinner restaurant with sunset views within walking distance
- Free Wi-Fi and DVD players in huts
Cons
- Resort buildings are spread out and require a lot of walking to get to
- Past guests report problems with Wi-Fi
Bottom Line
The adults-only Koh Tao Bamboo Huts is set in a gorgeous location, right on a small white-sand beach. Bungalows here come with outdoor showers and some have their own pools. Wi-Fi is available in the rooms although service is not always reliable, and there are a few dining options, including the romantic Starlight, a dinner spot with beautiful sunset views. Visitors should be prepared to do a lot of walking, as the resort is spread out and getting from spot to spot often requires steep trudges. Rates are a bit hard to justify when the more upscale Haadtien costs about the same (or less).

Scene
Casual and relaxed environment popular with families and couples
The Koh Tao Bamboo Huts seeks to be an exclusive and romantic rustic getaway destination, although it also attracts families with kids 16 and over who appreciate the property's secluded location on a remote side bay. The resort is spread out and getting from spot to spot sometimes requires long -- and steep -- walks. Most visitors spend their time relaxing on the small sandy beach, where there's also a restaurant and massage hut. The overall atmosphere is casual, although it's not a bad idea to pack something dressy to wear at the on-site Starlight restaurant, a romantic spot to eat dinner while looking out over the bay.
Location
Remote seaside location that's within walking distance of the ferry port and Mae Haad
The Koh Tao Bamboo Huts are set right next to the sea, with a jungle on the opposite side. The huts are located around the corner from Jansom Bay, a quiet and tranquil snorkeling spot. From the guest huts, it's a 10-minute hike via steep trails to the breakfast restaurant, and the reception is up another set of steps. Mae Haad Town and its ferry port can be accessed from here in about 20 minutes via a seaside trail.
Rooms
Huts with unreliable Wi-Fi, cable, and open-air showers -- some with plunge pools
The seaside bungalows have sea views that are undeniably romantic at sunset. Each hut comes with modern conveniences including Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs, although Wi-Fi is unreliable and television service doesn't have much in terms of international channels. Decor is typical of the Thai islands and features lots of bamboo as well as canopy beds with mosquito nets. The open-air showers are a nice touch, providing the mosquitoes aren't out, and the views truly are lovely. As the huts are grouped in pairs, they don't feel completely private. Some huts come with their own pools, but these run right up to the decks of neighboring bungalows.
Features
A breakfast buffet and a small beach area
The resort sits on a tiny private beach on a lovely snorkeling bay, but non-hotel guests are allowed access for a fee, and it can get crowed. There are several restaurants available nearby, all of which involve lots of steep walking to reach. The breakfast buffet is served at Chaba Restaurant, while the beachfront Elvis serves lunch and evening appetizers. The most impressive option is the romantic Starlight which juts out over the bay and offers romantic candlelight dinners each evening. All of these restaurants also get guests from Charm Churee Village. Prices are a bit higher than one will typically find in Mae Haad or Sairee.
