What's truly notable about the hotel is its beach -- one of the most beautiful and secluded private beaches in Jamaica. The pool is surprisingly small, given the hotel’s size and category, but its surrounding outdoor terrace is expansive and has beautiful sea views. The 74 sophisticated, colonial-style rooms have multi-room layouts with canopied four-poster beds and minibars, but their most notable feature is the private butler service -- Sandals Royal Plantation is perhaps the only property in Jamaica that provides this with every room. The hotel also offers 24-hour room service, free and unlimited water and land sports, and even a free airport shuttle -- a rarity in this part of the country.

Located on a quiet and secluded cove, this 35-acre all-inclusive resort features waterfalls, grottos, beaches, lakes, and jungles. Despite this lush natural setting, there are still mega-resort features on hand: three restaurants, four pools, four bars, a spa, and tons of free activities, like unlimited golf, scuba diving, windsurfing, horseback-riding tours, glass-bottom boat rides, and catamaran cruises. The 148-room manages to feel crowd-free and even intimate in the face of all its features, though its rooms and public areas could use some cosmetic updates. Service here includes nightly turndown and free room service throughout the day, but it does not go so far as to offer personal butler service, like at Royal Plantation.

The second hotel built in Jamaica and a former getaway for celebs like Joan Crawford and Walt Disney, this 19-acre Ocho Rios all-inclusive is still a refined option. The property is reserved exclusively for couples, so the resort's focus is on romance and relaxation rather than boozing and hard partying. Features include a gorgeous spa, a yoga and spinning studio, a clothing-prohibited island, and diverse dining options. The pools are unexceptional, though they do have ocean views, and one has a swim-up bar. Couples' all-inclusive rates cover much more than food and drink. Extras include excursions, water sports, top-shelf liquor, classes and clinics, off-site tours, airport and activities transfers, and even golf green fees at nearby Upton Golf Course.

Sandals Ochi Beach Resort is a sprawling 110-acre all-inclusive that's popular for weddings and honeymoons. It lacks the intimacy of the two Couples properties, as well as the all-room butler service found at Royal Plantation -- here, guests have to book a room in the All-Butler Village or the Great House to receive that treatment (and both of these areas are located on the far side of the road away from the water). Like our first three selections, Sandals features no shortage of restaurants, bars, pools, whirlpools, and activities (including an 18-hole golf course overlooking the sea) on the premises.
