On Sunset Key, a residential island a 7-minute boat ride from Key West
Sunset Key Guest Cottages is located on Sunset Key, an exclusive island off Key West. There are no businesses on the key, only upscale residences, a couple of docks, and sandy beaches. It is only accessible by boat, and the trip from the Westin, its sister property on Key West, takes about seven minutes.
Key West is the westernmost of the Florida Keys, and is definitely the most convenient if what you’re looking for is nightlife, as well as great diving, shops, restaurants, and decent beaches -- all within a few blocks. It can feel like a bit of a tourist trap with its tacky bars, hordes of cruise ship passengers, and T-shirt shops, but it’s one of the few keys that has historic sites to visit. On the literary side, Ernest Hemingway and Tennessee Williams spent a big part of their lives here, and their homes have been turned into museums.

This 40-room resort caters to the upscale traveler with luxurious, beach-chic cottages and high-end amenities. It is located on Sunset Key, a residential island off Key West, and is affiliated to the Westin Key West, with which it shares some features, such as the fitness center and the restaurants (though only guests of Sunset Key can use the on-site amenities; Westin guests do not have access to them). The hotel itself has wonderful amenities, including a lovely pool, a gorgeous beach with palm trees and clear waters, and a pleasant spa. Its location, though idyllic and exclusive, might be somewhat inconvenient for travelers who want to be close to shops and restaurants (the hotel only has one eatery on-site).
