While not as flashy as Punta Cana’s newer or larger alternatives, the four-pearl Majestic Elegance Punta Cana is a solid choice for both families and couples. The list of amenities ticks all the right boxes for a proper oceanfront all-inclusive vacation: a beautiful beach, two massive pools, nearly 20 restaurants and bars, and an elegant spa. Entertainment includes foam parties and the funjestic team organizes games by the pool and beach. All 597 suites are spacious and traditionally adorned with free Wi-Fi, hot tubs, stocked minibars, and private (optionally swim-up) terraces. The beach is overcrowded, and the property is showing its age, but it’s still a great value among comparable area all-inclusives. The Majestic Mirage Punta Cana -- the newer neighboring sister property -- offers a more sophisticated, adult-centric vibe and nicer rooms for slightly higher rates.
The “middle child” among Mirage-branded resorts, trying to be all things to all travelers
Built in 2008, the resort is newer and more adult-friendly than the neighboring Majestic Colonial Punta Cana, but older and less adult-friendly than the sophisticated Majestic Mirage Punta Cana. It seems to have found its groove as the brand’s middle child, catering equally to families and couples. The colonial inspired salmon-colored buildings with terra-cotta shingles and perfectly manicured (bordering on sterile) are accented with fun animal statues, like a bull made of rebar and a copper fish. Of course, grounds are peppered with lawns and swaying palm trees. An overcrowded beach and two massive, lazy-river-style pools anchor the resort’s social scene which is lively throughout the day. By afternoon, 11 bars keep the adult-friendly action (and nightly foam parties) humming. But, the atmosphere rarely gets too out-of-hand.
In a quiet resort mini-compound in tourist-friendly Playa Bavaro
Situated just north of Punta Cana proper in Playa Bavaro, the hotel is part of a three-resort compound of Mirage-branded properties. The area bustles day and night with tourist buses and shuttles ushering guests from one off-site activity to the next. But, there’s little within walking distance. For convenience and safety reasons, guests are advised to hail a cab to access the area’s most popular activities: shopping, casinos, and golf courses. Punta Cana International (PUJ) Airport is 30 minutes south along a modern, multilane freeway. While the hotel offers paid transportation, taxi service is just as convenient and typically cheaper.
Spacious suites with free Wi-Fi, free minibars, hot tubs, and balconies/terraces (with optional swim-up access)
Suite decor is vaguely sophisticated with furniture and decorative accents which are starting to show their age. Though the property was only built in 2008, the brown tile flooring, floral wallpaper, and distressed Roman columns already feel slightly dated. Bold pops of purple and crimson add subtle contemporary touches. Entry-level Junior Suites are spacious at 532 square feet (50 square meters), while One-Bedroom Suites upgrade to 1,064-square-foot (100-square-meter) layouts. Elegance Club Suites add exclusive restaurant access, butler service, and subtle in-room upgrades. The list of standard amenities includes free Wi-Fi, Nespresso machines, stocked minibars that include liquor, and flat-screen TVs. Water, beer, and soft drinks are restocked daily. Bathrooms are generously sized with dual vanities and jetted tubs open to the sleeping quarters. Separate shower stalls, wall-mounted hairdryers, and generic bath products are standard. All feature private balconies or terraces with optional ocean views and swim-up access. The most affordable rooms face the lovely pool.
Two giant lazy river pools and almost 20 restaurants and bars, but a jam-packed beach
Like most of Punta Cana’s larger resorts, the Majestic Elegance has all the expected amenities for an all-inclusive beach vacation. Two long lazy-river-style pools stretch almost the entire length of the property from the lobby to the beach. The Club Pool on the Elegance Club wing is available exclusively to adults. Ample lounge chairs, umbrellas, and sunbeds line both pools, and drink & snack service is available throughout the day.
A dedicated entertainment team organizes games and activities around the pools and beaches throughout the day, including a super popular foam party. The beach is wide, pristine, and beautiful. However, it overcrowds quickly, especially with the overflow of guests from other Mirage resorts. The sand is soft with nary a rock to be found, but the water is frequently choppy and less than ideal for casual swimmers and snorkelers. Most non-motorized water sports are included, while additional activities (Jet Skiing, scuba diving, etc.) are available from the PADI-certified dive shop for a fee.
All-inclusive food and drink service is provided at nearly 20 restaurants and bars. Flavours and See and Sea, the two main buffets, serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, while a la carte dinner service is available at a handful of specialty restaurants (including seafood, an Argentinian steakhouse, Italian, and a well-reviewed sushi bar). Lobster doesn't cost extra. The only restaurants that take reservations are the sushi and French restaurants, otherwise seating is first-come, first served. Free room service is available 24 hours a day for Elegance Club members; hours are more limited for all other guests. Nearly a dozen bars with premium liquor dot the property, so guests are rarely far from a cocktail. Live entertainment is provided day and night in the lobby piano bar, as well as at rotating locations throughout the Mirage resort compound. Nightly shows can include a Michael Jackson impersonator and Dominican dancing.
The resort’s spa is shared with the Majestic Mirage sister property. An extensive menu of traditional and specialty massage and beauty treatments is available for an additional cost. For a small fee, guests can access the casino and the kids' club at the neighboring Majestic Colonial Punta Cana. There's a modern fitness center and outdoor tennis courts. Wi-Fi is fast and free throughout the property. Self-parking is available in a lot staffed with 24-hour security.
