What It's Like

The Lower Downtown Historic District, or “LoDo” as Denverites call it, is Denver’s birthplace and the most boisterous part of the metropolis. Thanks to LoDo, Denver has recently started to become an increasingly popular place for young twenty- and thirty-somethings.

As the tenth largest downtown area in the nation, this area is chock full of shops, entertainment, and restaurants. Rain or snow, LoDo pulses with locals and tourists weaving in and out of cafes and pubs. Also popular: art gallery tours, and Colorado Rockies games at Coors Field.

Several parks and bike trails offer visitors an alternative to typical cosmopolitan activities. Elitch Gardens, a full-scale amusement park, is one of the top things for families to do in Denver.

Where To Stay

Business travelers may want to stay in southern LoDo, closest to the Central Business District and the Colorado Convention Center. Sports enthusiasts may want to check out hotels near Coors Field, northeast of the Convention Center. For frugal options, look farther away from LoDo’s center -- the farther away, the less expensive the hotel will be.
