Orange Hill
Beach Inn is a three-pearl hotel located on the northern coast of New Providence
Island. The hotel’s 33 guest rooms are simply decorated and practical; many
feature either kitchenettes or full kitchens and some have partial coast views. There’s an on-site restaurant and
honor bar, appealing outdoor pool, as well as a peaceful beach right across the
street. However, the lackluster decor could use a refresh throughout, plus entertainment
and dining options within walking distance are limited. One cool perk: Staff makes a daily run to the grocery store and takes requests. As an alternative, Compass Point Beach
Resort down the road is pricier, but rooms are much more stylish and the beach
is better.

The grounds
of Orange Hill Beach Inn have an inviting, tropical feel, with colorful
building facades, grassy lawns, and shady palm trees. The hotel’s slightly
elevated hilltop location allows for partial views of the coast from the front
grounds. Common areas
are well-maintained but the decor ranges from unattractive to downright dreary. The reception area is painted Pepto Bismol-pink and the front desk is little more than a doorway.Guests are
mainly couples, but you’ll see a few families and solo travelers as well. Some
are taking advantage of the hotel’s proximity to the airport for one-night
stays en route to and from other destinations. Other guests are interested in a
relaxed getaway, away from the crowds of Cable Beach and downtown Nassau. The
atmosphere is relatively easy-going, although the bar can get lively in the
evenings.

Orange Hill
Beach Inn is set in a lovely, secluded location along one of the island’s main
coastal roads. There’s a beautiful stretch of beach across the road and a
handful of restaurants within walking distance, but the location is fairly
isolated otherwise. The hotel is a better fit for guests with rental cars, and parking is free.There are
several stops for the jitney bus along West Bay Street, offering cheap
transport to downtown Nassau, but service only runs until early evening. Nearby
beaches include Love Beach and Cable Beach, which can both be reached in less
than a 10-minute drive. Downtown Nassau is a 25-minute drive away, while the
airport is 10 minutes away. The Fish Fry at Arawak Cay is around 15 minutes
away by car.

Guest rooms
at Orange Hill Beach Inn could use an update. They're decorated with drab floral or striped bedspreads,
tile or laminate flooring, and dated wooden furniture. All rooms include microwaves,
mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. Rooms also have flat-screen TVs and small
dining tables. Bathrooms are plain, with older fixtures, generic bars of soap,
and shower/tub combos. Private balconies or terraces are set with plastic patio
furniture. Some have views of the pool or partial views of the ocean along with the
hotel’s leafy grounds. Personal safes are available for a surcharge.Studio
rooms include the addition of kitchenettes with
two-burner stovetops, and a small selection of cookware. Apartments offer
sitting areas with lumpy sofas, along with full kitchens with ovens and
full-size refrigerators. The furniture is arranged awkwardly in some rooms. For
example, one apartment we saw had a bed wedged in front of the bathroom door, just off
the kitchen. The
cottages are by far the hotel’s most attractive rooms, set in octagon-shaped
buildings that create a rounded interior layout. Cottages have brighter color
schemes, wooden flooring, and French doors leading out onto balconies. Kitchenettes
with stovetops are similar to those found in studio rooms. Note that none of the rooms pick up the Wi-Fi signal found in the common areas. Past guests have complained about rusty appliances and worn sheets.

This is a simple hotel, with few features. The highlight is a large rectangular outdoor pool set within a nice courtyard. Aside
from some trees surrounding the pool, the deck offers minimal shade. Sun loungers are of the plastic variety popular in the '80s.The lobby
includes a restaurant that’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with
closures between services. The shelves lining the restaurant walls are decorated with some
interesting knickknacks, but the space is dark and lifeless overall. An arched
doorway leads around the corner and down a few steps to the hotel’s honor bar.
A bartender is on duty in the evenings, but the rest of the time guests are free
to serve themselves and note their drinks on a record sheet. Large windows
brighten the bar area, but like the restaurant, the decor is old-fashioned and
unstylish. The hotel
is located across the street from a pretty stretch of beige sand beach. Due to
its out-of-the-way location, it’s not uncommon for guests to have this strip of
sand completely to themselves; however, it offers no facilities and its
proximity to busy West Bay Street is less than ideal. The calm waters are
suitable for swimming and snorkeling. The hotel
operates a grocery store run each morning. Guests are invited to ride along
with staff for free or make requests for particular items to be picked up. Free
Wi-Fi is available in the common areas, including the lobby and bar. There are guest laundry facilities for an additional fee.
