Miraval Austin Resort & Spa

Austin, Texas, United States

This spa resort is blissfully serene, despite being only 30 minutes from downtown Austin. Its sits amid forested hills adjacent to the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve. For relaxation, there’s an infinity pool and an 11-room spa, but guests can also partake in outdoor activities like ziplining, horseback riding, and hiking. There’s also a farm on the property, and guests can take agriculture classes there. The Lodge at Woodloch

Though the Poconos are filled with purposefully tacky honeymoon retreats, the Lodge at Woodloch is anything but gaudy. This upscale property sits on acres of private land with its own lake. Guests can dine at the onsite farm-to-table restaurant, sampling dishes created with produce grown in the resort’s garden, take fitness classes that range from aerobics to T’ai chi, and relax at the massive spa, comprising 27 treatment rooms, saunas, steam rooms, and whirlpools. With a focus on wellness, Canyon Ranch is a great place to rejuvenate your body and mind. Activities include from fitness classes (each guest receives a fitness assessment), a ropes course (for an extra fee), tennis and racquetball, informational lectures, and therapy sessions with psychotherapists. There’s an 80,000-square-foot spa complex to enjoy, as well as two dining rooms that serve healthy, low-calorie meals. (Note: There's no alcohol served on site.) In the heart of the red rock cliffs in Utah, this getaway combines adventure with leisure. Historic Tapoco Lodge Resort

As its name suggests, this property is indeed historic -- it’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was opened in 1930 by the Aluminum Company of America on 120 acres in the Nantahala National Forest. It’s popular with motoring enthusiasts, who are drawn to the nearby Tail of the Dragon road. Guests can enjoy activities on the Cheoah River, like fly-fishing and kayaking, or relax near the outdoor firepits. There are two dining options, Jasper's Restaurant and SlickRock Grill, as well as a bar with microbrews.
