Despite a whopping 1,145 rooms, the Melia all-inclusive mega-resort is a considerably more affordable fashion-forward hotel, with its stunning public spaces and ornate restaurants.
Designed by fashion industry icon Oscar de la Renta, the Tortuga Bay boutique hotel features some of the most stunning, unique, yet elegant interiors in the D.R. Among the highlights: four-poster beds with Frette linens, bathrooms with coral floors, and deep soaking Jacuzzi tubs. The crown jewel of the enclosed Punta Cana Resort and Club complex, this swanky hotel has only 15 rooms. It's common to see a new Mercedes or Hummer rolling down the lush lanes or parked in front of the Gold Club. In fact, Tortuga Bay claims the Clintons among its famous patrons. Despite a whopping 1,145 rooms, the Melia all-inclusive mega-resort is a considerably more affordable fashion-forward hotel, with its stunning public spaces and ornate restaurants. The spacious lobby, with its golden murals and choice curios, feels like a billionaire's living room. The Melia's bars and restaurants are far more stylish than the kitschy, thematic decorations at most all-inclusive resorts. The dark and lacquered La Pagoda, the enormous dollhouse at El Guarapo, and the rose ceiling at Ma Maison are particularly inventive. Built in 2009 on top of a steep cliff, surrounded by acres of soon-to-be-developed land, the Sanctuary is an undeniably picturesque resort. At the center of its sprawling complex sits a fortress made to look like a charming Spanish village. At points throughout the hotel, the view is the premier attraction. The 24-hour pool at the Casa Colonial can feel like an intimate refuge from the all-inclusive mega-resorts that surround this small-scale boutique hotel. Chic rooms with bright windows and soaking tubs are well appreciated by its honeymoon-heavy clientele. Casa Colonial also features a small orchid garden -- perfect for spending a day with a book.
